about

This is the third and most likely final collection of my field recordings, and it has a variety of natural sounds to offer the listener. All of this album was recorded in my home town of Falmouth, Massachusetts. I chose to release Around Falmouth six years on from the date I recorded its last track because it is one of my favorite field recordings. The individual track pages have more information specific to the particular recording.

Included in the download is a large grid comprised of 64 photos I took at various locations in Falmouth. The photo grid includes many conservation parcels, a private garden or two, beaches, and my family's yard.

Over the years I was making the field recordings which comprise this and my other two field recording albums I was not thinking about releasing them. I enjoyed the experience of recording them--documenting the sound of a specific time and place while experiencing the time and place myself--and listening back to them later. It felt like my very own sonic transporter and time machine collection, albeit vicariously through my microphone and recording device. I didn't expect others to be interested in my field recordings--they felt self-indulgent at the time--but when I began to get good feedback I changed my perspective. Then Bandcamp came along, and I became curious about releasing the field recordings digitally, so I got to work.

This collection has been edited so that it can be burned to an 80-minute CD-r when choosing the gapless option.

The equipment used to record "Around Falmouth" included the Sony ECM-MS907 and Sony ECM-MS957 microphones, and Sharp MT-MD831 and Sony MZ-RH1 minidisc recorders.
