about

Feeding is my first noise album. All the source material is from a stereo feedback loop I engineered between a damaged tape deck and a mixing board. Due to the high frequencies and odd stereo nature of the recording, it makes for rather difficult listening. The track titles are names of parts of an Aplacophora's digestive system.

This album was released by Epicene Sound Systems on their limited edition CD-R noise sublabel Epicene Sound Replica at some point in April/early May 2004 with the catalog number ESR002. Their description of the disc is as follows: "The sounds of drowning radios and crushing tape decks. Serious squeal and nastiness that gives you the canine head tilt. Totally nauseating, totally great. Found paper photo copied and wrapped in vellum then sprayed with a hefty dose of chrome. Hand numbered and limited to 50 copies."

The bonus track is a minute and a quarter of noise made thusly: the audio editing program made image files of the waveforms I was editing. I took those image files and used the same program to read them as sound, and strung them together in the same track order as the album.

For reviews which I think make fair points check: www.disagreement.net/reviews/scutopus_feeding.html for one by someone who doesn't usually listen to noise, and www.aversionline.com/reviews/520/ for one by someone who does. Those were posted around the time of the original release, while the following one was published shortly after the digital reissue was posted here: crazydesertman.blogspot.com/2012/09/scutopus-feeding.html
